This is our core service, providing practical and accessible support to families in their own homes, by qualified and experienced staff and trained volunteers.
All support is tailor-made to individual family needs and aims to provide positive outcomes for the children and all the family.
Staff and trained volunteers support families by providing help with parenting, respite, kindness, understanding and a listening ear.
We deliver the following parenting programmes:
Our programmes help parents who are at different stages in their parenting and relationships with their children.
The groups help parents to grow in confidence, recognise their own strengths and enhance “the parent and child” relationship so that children grow up secure in their parents’ ability to care for their physical and emotional well being and make the right choices to keep them safe.
Programmes can be accessed via a group or individually and are available across Carlisle and Eden.
Children’s Group Work
Best Buddies (5 - 8 yr olds)
Monday Club (9 - 11 yr olds)
Groups give children the chance to take part in activities which encourages the building of positive relationships and helps them to develop awareness of personal safety. The groups empower children and help them to develop greater emotional resilience, confidence and self esteem. Each group consists of 10 sessions.
This work can also be offered on an individual basis.
Eden Contact Centre
We offer fortnightly supported contact sessions for absent parents at the Penrith Children’s Centre, in a positive and safe environment. Supported contact helps to enhance contact with non-resident parents or grandparents. We are part of the “Self Referral System” administered by the National Association Of Contact Centre`s.
Individual Work with Parents
We support parents to recognise the positives and strengths that they have within their family. We also help them to identify where there are gaps and needs and how to tackle them. Together we set up a SMART Family Support Plan that is specific to their needs and one that has realistic expectations for all the family.
Individual Work with Children
When we work with parents on parenting or relationship issues, we also provide 6 sessions of individual work with the child, to explore their wishes and feelings and gain an insight into what it is like for them to live in their particular situation. This helps us focus the parenting support for the family and the child’s voice to be heard and listened to in the Family Support Plan.
